The Manoir de la Tour et Jean-Jacques Rousseau

This country house is above all known for having played host to Jean-Jacques Rousseau (a french writer) in July 1730. He was accompanied by Miss de Gallay and a friend of hers, and spent a day in their company, which made a lasting impression on him, and which he wrote about in his work ‘Les Confessions’.

The Maison de la Tour, became the property of the commune of Thônes in 2007, and has been restored over the years to highlight Mr Rousseau’s visit and welcome visitors.
